Tipping Your Movers - What to know BEFORE moving day!![]() It's moving day. You have had to remember a hundred details including making sure the movers know what to do, what doesn't go on the truck, what box goes into what room and everything else that goes along with moving day. What you haven't thought about is tipping your movers and now it's the end of the day and the move is over and you are thanking these hard-working people who have put so much effort into making sure that the dresser is in the right spot, the doors didn't get scratched, the floors didn't get dirty and the treadmill got moved impossibly into the basement...then it occurs to you..."Should I tip them?!?!?" You're horrified because you don't have any cash because you haven't figured out where the ATM is in this new town and you can't find the checkbook and you wonder if a check would be an appropriate tipping method anyway! So, now is the time to plan ahead! We are going to give you the Top Tips For Tipping! (see what we did there?) First thing to know...our Spring Hill Moving Company movers do NOT expect a tip. Yup, you read that right! Our movers are specially trained to do a fantastic job for you and not to expect a tip. In fact the only reason, I am sharing any of this information with you right now is because it is a question that we get asked quite often. So, while tips aren't expected, we have found that satisfied customers often do tip and our movers will graciously accept tips. So, how much? It depends. It depends on things like the duration of the move, any special treatment that some of your belongings might have required, and how you feel the move went overall. IF you do decide to tip (even though you know it's not expected), on average here's what we have seen over the years: For a move that is fairly small (apartments, storage units, etc) and that don't take very long, $10-$20 per person is fairly common. For a move that is a bit larger or more involved (3 bedroom house, townhome, etc.) that might take 3 or 4 hours, $20-$30 is common. For large moves, $20-$50 is about average. If there are special circumstances that require extra effort, time or specific instructions, that might also be a consideration for a larger tip. Again, we only share this information because we often get asked but our crew members are professionally trained to do their best work for you regardless of a tip. We would love to assist you with YOUR move! Please call us at (615) 696-7945 or fill out our information request form (click here.)

![]() Looking for a great deal on local or long distance moving in the Spring Hill, TN area? Watch out for group-social-type "deals!" Everyone loves a great deal! We do too! In fact, we get some of the same emails that you do that talk about special deals on everything from restaurants to oil changes to air duct cleaning to moving services. So, what about those "deals"? We have all heard the saying, "if it seems too good to be true than it probably is." When you see those "deals" come in your email, a moving company has made arrangements with the deal provider to pay them a significant percentage of what you pay for the deal. So, for example, if you see a deal for 2 movers for 2 hours for $90, the "deal company" will most likely get 25-50% of that money. The moving company will then have to pay for 2 men's wages for 2 hours, gas for a moving truck, supplies, overhead expenses and insurance and by the time all is said and done, the moving company has spent their 50% and then some! How can they do that? Simply, they will make sure that your move takes more than 2 hours and more than 2 men. Moving companies are a business and they can't afford to send out a truck and 2 men for 2 hours and not make any money, plus since those resources are being used, they are unavailable for other jobs that will make them money. They have to make their money somehow and so what normally happens is they will add in charges that would normally be included. They will take longer than normal to do the work so that they can charge you for an inflated 3rd hour or 3rd man. Or they will tell you that they are already booked if they feel like they can't do the other things. So, your "deal" isn't really a deal. In fact, it can become a headache and more expensive than you expect. Reputable companies will give you their rates over the phone or in email, they hire professional movers who are trained to keep up a "pace" that ensures that they get your move done as quickly and carefully as possible, and they don't purposefully keep their movers or their resources on a job longer than they have to because time is money for you and for them. They are also concerned about making their customers happy because they will often become repeat customers and refer their business to their friends who may be moving. So, be careful of "deals" and instead call a local moving company who will be there before, during and after your move. At Spring Hill Moving Company, we will give you our competitive rates, an accurate estimate and a total listing of everything we believe will make your local or long distance move stress-free, safe and reliable. Plus, we are based right here in Spring Hill, TN and have been serving the Nashville, Franklin, TN, Murfreesboro, TN and Brentwood, TN areas for over a decade. ![]() Most things in your home fit nice and easy into a box. There are boxes that are specially designed for flat-screen TVs, mirrors, large pictures, wardrobes and more. There are, however, some thing that just don't box up very well. So, what do you do with those items? Moving professionals will tell you that you should box everything including those difficult to box items. Why? Quite simply so they won't get lost, damaged or cause other damage. Plus, it saves you time and money with your move. Lamps, decorative pieces, artificial trees and plants, fishing rods, and other items with poles and that are long and tall can be very difficult to box. Here at Spring Hill Moving Company, we tell our customers to do their best to box those items or wrap them securely with cardboard, plastic wrap, packing blankets or other protective material. Tall wardrobe boxes are excellent for lamps. Place the lamps in the box and surround with throw pillows or other lightweight items. Always remember the Box Rule: The bigger the box, the lighter the items in it. A large box filled with books can be very, very heavy! What if you just can't pack it to move? Ask us! We will be happy to assist you with packing it (we are professionals and have just about seen it all and packed it!) or we can give it special attention in loading. The other option is to transport it separately in another vehicle. Does it need a box? Yes...for it's safety and protection and the safety and protection of your other items.
