7 Packing Hacks For A Better Moving Day

Planning a move is a hassle and can be one of the most stressful events in your life. Here are some packing tips that will help you to be organized and pack your home like a pro!
You can pack yourself or you can use the packing services of pros like Spring Hill Moving Company. If you do it yourself, these tips will help!
1) Boxes! Get boxes!
Do your best to get boxes that are a uniform size, that way it'll be much easier to load. Obviously, every box is not created equal! Use smaller boxes for heavier items (like books) and for fragile items (like glasses). Use larger boxes for blankets, pillows and other large but light things. Where can you get boxes? Self-storage facilities and self-moving locations will sell boxes and so will big box hardware stores. Don't forget to try to find FREE BOXES! In a city like Spring Hill, there are literally dozens and dozens of families moving here each month and when they unpack, their leftover boxes could save you a lot of money. Check out community resources like Facebook groups for people getting rid of boxes.
2) Tape Gun!
Worth it's weight in gold! A tape gun is your best friend while you are packing. Usually for less than $10 you can get a tape gun that will go the distance!
3) Bubble Wrap!
Bubble wrap has a great reputation in the moving world and for good reason! It's a must-have for anything fragile or that needs a little extra protection. You can get it at the big box hardware stores or find even better deals online through retailers such as Amazon.
4) Big Markers!
Notice that I said "MarkerS". You need several. Why? Because there never seems to be one right where you need it to be so they need to be everywhere! You will need those markers because you are going to...
5) Label EVERYTHING!
This should have probably been the number 1 hack because it will save you the most time, effort, energy and sanity. Whether you write everything on a sticker and put it on the box or you just scrawl right on the cardboard, write down 3 Things: A)What is in the box. Include as much detail as you can because you will wind up with a box with one-of-these-things-is-not-like-the-others and have the tv remote in the box with the pots and pans. B)Where the box belongs. On moving day, that is the very first question that will be asked about that box as it comes of the truck. C)Special Instructions...Fragile, Heavy, This End Up...are all very helpful when it comes to putting that box on and off the truck. That label is so important that you should put it on 3 Sides of the box, too...Top, Front and Side.
6) Pack The Box!
Fill the box to the very top and pack it tightly. Fill up empty space with towels, blankets, smaller items, etc. Keep in mind that each box is going to wind up with either a box under it or a box (or several!) on top of it. A box that is packed all the way will act like a building block. A box not packed all the way will act like a taco...the sides will bend and crack and all the insides will wind up on the outside. Pack your boxes tightly so they can survive the most important journey of their lives.
7) Have More Of EVERYTHING Than You Think You Need!
Allow yourself more time, have more boxes, get more tape, and you can never have enough bubble wrap! The last thing you want to do when you are in a packing frenzy is have to stop because you ran out of something. Get more than you need and don't worry because you can return what you don't use or be a blessing to someone else who is moving.
Listed as one of the most stressful events in our lives, moving is not easy. These tips will help to make sure that you are prepared to make it as smooth as possible!

7 Ways To Make Your Move Better

Moving Day is coming up and you want to be ready, right? If you have hired a moving company like Spring Hill Moving Company, there are some things you can do to help make moving day run smoothly for you and for your movers! Assuming you have already packed using our 7 Step Packing Plan, these are tips for the actual Moving Day.

1) Pets are great...except on moving day!
We love pets. We even have pets. On moving day, make sure your pets are safely and happily away from all the commotion of moving. Their natural curiosity combined with open doors and strange people in their home is a recipe for potential problems. For the safety of your pets, your moving team and your belongings, it's best to have them away from all the action.
2) Kids are great, too!
On moving day, though, it might be best to get a baby sitter for the youngsters. Moving trucks are big and interesting and ramps look like fun to run up and down, but your moving day is serious business and there's a lot going on and for their safety it's best if they observe from a distance.
3) Clear a path outside!
Be sure to make it easy for your movers to get their truck as close to your house as possible. Move your vehicles out of the driveway and park them away from the house if possible. Movers like Spring Hill Moving Company often use trucks that have boxes that are 26 feet long or longer and they need all the room they can get!
4) Clear a path inside!
Try to remove as much clutter as possible to make it easier for your movers to walk down hallways, go up and down stairs, and get your belongings onto the truck. It will make your move go smoothly and save time and money.
5) Label, label, label!
While you may know that your electric skillet, toaster and waffle maker are in that box, your movers have no idea so label the box clearly on the top and sides so your movers know what room the box belongs in. If possible, label furniture too so they know if that chair belongs in the master suite or the den.
6) Make a plan and stick to the plan!
When you did the walk through and inventory with your mover, make sure they know about everything. In order to save you time and money, your mover uses calculations to determine how many people, how many blankets, dollies and how big a truck to bring to your move. Avoid last minute add-ons like the shed in the back yard, the stuff in the storage unit or all the Christmas boxes in the attic. Add-ons can cost time and money.
7) Be ready!
Unless you hired your movers to also pack your belongings, make sure you have boxes packed and everything in a box. Last minute boxing the day of the move will potentially increase time and costs.
Hiring professionals, like Spring Hill Moving Company, is the best way to make sure that your move is a stress-free and smooth as it can be. These tips will help your movers and ultimately save you time and money.
